Asheville, North Carolina is not known as the Paris of the South just because of it's great restaurants and bohemian atmosphere, but primarily due to the large number of artists who live and work here. Musicians, visual artists, and writers all thrive in our town.
One of the local artists that we are fortunate to know and call a friend is Berry Bate. She lives just a few blocks from The Lion & The Rose Bed & Breakfast.
Berry studied music in college, but she eventually found her true calling as an artist in metal sculpture. She has been creating architectural and sculptural ironwork for over 30 years. She uses the technique of blacksmithing to form nature, helping it come alive in metal.
Berry has created many ironwork pieces that are featured in public and private collections across the country. Her public commissions for metal sculpture are at the Biltmore Estate, Brookgreen Gardens, the Grove Park Inn, Converse College, Furman University, and the City of Spartanburg, among many others.
On April 16, 2011, Berry will be exhibiting some of her most recent sculpture for the first time at our Bed & Breakfast for the Spring Tour of Asheville Inns.
