"The Hunger Games", a major motion picture released this year, was filmed in North Carolina in the spring and summer of 2011. The movie is based on the trilogy written by Suzanne Collins.
Many scenes were shot in the Asheville area, showcasing the breathtaking natural beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Almost all of the game scenes were filmed in the 10,000 acre DuPont State Forest, just 40 miles south of Asheville. The movie also includes Triple Falls Trail, Hooker Falls Road, and Bridal Veil Falls.
Most of the cast and crew stayed in Asheville while making the movie, eating at local restaurants and enjoying numerous outdoor activities. The director discovered a laid back bar along the French Broad River. Others spent time cycling the Blue Ridge Parkway, whitewater rafting, strolling down Lexington Avenue past the used record stores & coffee shops, perusing books at the Battery Park Bookstore & Wine Bar and Malaprop's, taking the funky LaZoom Comedy Bus Tour, and sampling the wares at several local breweries and restaurants.
Our Asheville Bed and Breakfast is just a short drive from DuPont State Forest, and walking distance to the downtown Asheville haunts frequented by the cast and crew.
