Lexington Avenue Arts & Fun Festival 2011Lexington Avenue Arts & Fun Festival 2011

This year was the 10th anniversary of the festival for fans of the strange and unusual who keep finding their way to the street that is the heart, horror, and glory of fringe living in Downtown Asheville - Lexington Avenue.

LAAFF started out as a block party held by some of the galleries on Lexington as a way to promote the independent businesses in the area.  Then it became a benefit for the Asheville Mural Project.  But its core purpose is to provide an opportunity for free expression and the sheer enjoyment of mingling with like minded freaks.

It's an interactive festival where the performers and the festival goers blur together.  Everything is local - from the beer, to the food, and the artists.  There's an area just for kids, a bicycle jousting competition a variety of music on different stages, and every type of costume imaginable.
