Shindig on the Green in Asheville, North CarolinaShindig on the Green in Asheville, North Carolina

The celebrated mountain tradition, Shindig on the Green, which showcases the region's rich heritage through its folk musicians and dancers, begins its 45th annual season this summer in the heart of downtown Asheville in Pack Square Park.

Humans have been dancing, singing, and playing music on summer nights for thousands of years.  Shindig is just a continuation of this custom - it's a joyous and spontaneous celebration of string bands, bluegrass, ballad singers, and mountain dance.

Locals and visitors come together in the beautifully renovated Pack Square around sundown to enjoy the stage show and the informal jam sessions throughout the park.

You can bring a lawn chair or blanket, or just stroll through the park, or dance whenever you feel like it - by yourself or with a partner of your choice.

After all, you're in Asheville - so you can relax and be yourself - there are no outsiders (or insiders for that matter) in our town. And, not only is Shindig free, but it's just a short mile walk from our Asheville Bed & Breakfast.

Shindig on the Green is held on almost every Saturday from July through the first week in September:  July 2, 9, 16, 23; August 13, 20, 27: and September 3.  For more information click here or call (828) 258-6101 x345.
